ABOUT

Elizabeth Barley

Born & raised in Reynoldsburg, Ohio (the Birthplace of the Tomato- no, really!), I went to college at the University of Notre Dame (Go Irish!), where I studied architecture for the majority of my undergraduate career before finally deciding to switch my major to graphic design... after my third year of college. It finally occurred to me that, as strange as it was (at least to all of my architecture classmates), I enjoyed the tedious hand lettering and the layout of the project sheets far more than coming up with the architectural designs themselves.

As hard as it was to change majors after my junior year in college, my father was the one who was the most supportive in the decision, telling me that if I wasn't doing what I love, I probably wasn't going to be happy or satisfied with a career path that came from sticking out a major only because I had invested a few years in it so far. Likewise, he also told me any future job or career wouldn't feel like work if I was doing what I love. Looking back, I'm so glad I made the change, and I've been extremely fortunate to be able integrate my architectural background into quite a bit of my graphic design work.

From both my time in college and now as a military spouse (Go Navy!), I've been fortunate to live in and be exposed to a wide variety of places. I'm thankful I've had the opportunity to travel and, more importantly, meet an even wider variety of people in these places. The more people I've met, the more I've been able to continue to develop not only my personal and professional skills, but also expand my outlook and perspective on life.

On a non-design related note, I am an aficionado of (in no particular order) garden gnomes, palm trees, coffee, 80's music, and just about all things shiny, sparkly, and purple. And much like Julia Child, "I enjoy cooking with wine; sometimes, I even put it in the food."
